GPT-6’s interactive answers: what changes for everyday ChatGPT users
On 7 October 2026, OpenAI announced GPT-6 with Intelligent UI for ChatGPT: answers that can include charts, forms, buttons and other interactive pieces, not only plain text. The rollout started that day for Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise, and began expanding to Free and Go from 8 October. Here’s what changed for everyday users, what’s different between plans, and what to check before you rely on it. Based on OpenAI’s announcement and help pages, checked 9 October 2026.
What Intelligent UI is
- Answers can mix text, visuals and interactive pieces. OpenAI says responses may include graphics, tappable buttons, forms, charts and small tools you use inside the chat.
- The format depends on the question. A comparison might sit side by side; a how-it-works answer might use a diagram you can click through. When plain text is enough, ChatGPT can stay with text.
- You can ask for a tool on the spot. Examples OpenAI gives include a savings calculator, a bill splitter, or a simple game inside the conversation.
- No special prompt is required. Help Center says ordinary text answers are still possible, and Intelligent UI has no separate usage quota — your usual model, tool and plan limits still apply.
Who gets which model
From OpenAI’s 7 October announcement and ChatGPT release notes (Chat tab):
| ChatGPT plan | Rollout started | Model behind GPT-6 in Chat |
|---|---|---|
| Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise | 7 October 2026 | GPT-6 Sol |
| Free and Go | From 8 October 2026 | GPT-6 Luna |
The rollout is gradual, so GPT-6 may not show up on every account yet. OpenAI’s model help page still lists GPT-5.6 Luna as the Free and Go default, so Free and Go users may see that until the rollout reaches them.
Both Sol and Luna are tuned for everyday conversation in this Chat release. Enterprise access still depends on workplace admin settings.
Important scope limit: OpenAI says this update applies to the Chat experience. The models powering Work and Codex did not change as part of this release.
Faster answers while it still thinks
With GPT-6, ChatGPT can start answering while it continues to think, instead of waiting for a full “reasoning” pass first. OpenAI says it trained the model to build the answer across partial responses so the final reply still hangs together.
For questions that need web search, OpenAI says GPT-6 Instant starts answering 44% sooner on average than GPT-5.6 Instant. That’s OpenAI’s own figure from its announcement, not an independent test, and OpenAI doesn’t publish how it was measured.
Limits and settings worth knowing
From OpenAI Help Center (checked 9 October 2026):
- Intelligent UI rolls out on the web and on updated mobile apps when you use GPT-6 at Instant through Extra High. It is not available with Pro effort, which stays on GPT-6 Astra.
- Older ChatGPT desktop apps for macOS and Windows do not support these capabilities; use ChatGPT on the web instead, and update the mobile app.
- On the web, Settings > turn off “Layout and visuals” reduces visual elements. OpenAI notes some visuals may still appear; this is not a full classic text-only mode.
- Changing how one conversation looks does not change your other chats.
What this means for customer service
Interactive answers help when the person is sitting in ChatGPT planning a dinner or learning how a bike works. Customer chats are different: people are often on WhatsApp, asking about prices, orders or complaints, and they need a clear next step, not a new mini-app.
For many Malaysian SMEs, the place customers already are is the WhatsApp thread. An AI CS hire that answers from approved information, stays honest when it doesn’t know, and can hand over to a person when it should, matters more than how fancy the chat UI looks.
